CLB+
New version of Category LiveBookmarks Plus (CLB+) now available! CLB+ version 2.3.0b enables WordPress 2.3+ users to configure and customize the ultimate set of autodetection feeds, category feeds, category links, and feed links.

Features include completely rewritten, optimized code, optional category post counts, and custom RSS-icon links for all category and/or feed links. Overall, the new version is faster and more flexible than ever!

Let’s take a quick look..

Update: Category LiveBookmarks is discontinued as WordPress has integrated all of the same functionality. So no more need for this plugin!</update>

Live bookmarks

Category LiveBookmarks Plus is the easy way to provide complete “Live Bookmark” functionality and “Post Smart” feed links to your WordPress-powered website. Simply install the plugin, and users with Firefox, Opera, Navigator, or any other modern browser, will enjoy a selection of your RSS feed links at their fingertips. CLB Plus seamlessly integrates the code necessary for modern browsers to automatically detect and update any RSS feed available from the current page, enabling readers to stay current with important news and updates.

About the plugin

Category LiveBookmarks Plus also makes it easy to add category feed links to posts, comments, pages, or anywhere else within your site. Simply add the <? clb_plus(); ?> function to the desired location within your blog, and there enjoy a contextually relevant selection of completely customizable RSS feed links. There are also options to include RSS feed links for “all posts” and “all comments”, as well as settings to customize markup, icons, and feed links. Plus, as of version 1.7.7, there are options to display a custom set of category links next to feed links, which may include comment counts and RSS-icon links.

With CLB+, you may customize category feeds for the various WordPress view types (e.g., category views, page views). CLB automatically omits feeds with zero posts, and also excludes subcategory feeds. Further, this plugin produces strictly valid XHTML markup.

Installation and Usage

  1. Unzip php file and add to wp-content/plugins directory.
  2. Open php file and adjust any of the “CLB OPTIONS”, if desired.
  3. Add the following function call to your sidebar or any other location:
    <?php if (function_exists('clb_plus')) { clb_plus(); } ?>
  4. Feed links will be added to the <head> automatically. No further action required.
  5. Feed links will be added to the <body> wherever the function call (from step 3) is located.

    DLa,
    You may be having difficulty because of the "+" character used in the name of the plugin .zip file. If that is the case, try downloading the same plugin via a renamed .zip file (i.e., without the plus sign).

    The download link doesn’t work for me. The reason is that the php link does not redirect correctly. The good link is https://perishablepress.com/wp/wp-content/online/plugins/cat-live-bookmarks_1.7.7.zip

    The-RockeR,
    Thank you for pointing this out. We recently moved to a new server and had to reconfigure our download-statistics scripts to account for the new URI and path data. Now that we have made these changes, all download links at Perishable Press should function properly. Thanks again for the ‘heads up’ concerning this issue.
    Cheers,
    Jeff

  4. Hi, I was using your plugin successfully with the cutline WP theme, changed themes and it didn’t work, so i went back to cutline but now the plugin isn’t working there either.
    Any ideas what went wrong?

    Hi Linda,
    It sounds like there may be a plugin conflict or something..
    Are you installing or modifying any other plugins while working with CLB+? In general, the WP themes themselves do not affect the default behavior of a plugin, unless it is designed to function in a nonstandard way. You may want to try removing the first CLB+ plugin and then download and install a fresh copy after everything else (theme/plugins) is working as desired. If you still need help, please let me know.
    Regards,
    Jeff

    @eyedmax:

    Yes, I am aware of the changes regarding the wp_categories table in WordPress 2.3. I plan on testing and upgrading my various plugins as soon as I am able to upload and configure yet another WordPress test installation. And that may take awhile.. ;)

    @April:

    Thank you so much for the positive feedback — it is greatly appreciated! :)

  9. I’ll wait.
    It’s just a great plug, and I think WP core need something like this…
    Thanks a lot!

    eyedmax,

    Thank you for your patience with this plugin — I am glad to hear you find it useful enough to wait for a WP2.3-compatible version. In fact, I now have made plugin-updating one of my next priorities. I hope to get to it within the next week or so. I will of course update this post and leave a comment as soon as the new version is available for download. — Stay tuned.. ;)

    I love your plugin and want to use it on the site I’m working on. But, I installed WordPress 2.3 and even though your plugin is listed as compatible, I’m getting errors because it calls the categories table (which is, apparently, not a part of the new 2.3). Help!!!

    Kim Estes,

    I am working on the CLB+ plugin today and hope to have a WP-2.3 version available very soon..

    Regards,
    Jeff
