I am very sorry for you, is a pity that this is how your life is going to end as soon as you don’t comply. As you can see we are the members of the Deadly Networks in the world, which is responsible for the bombing of the twin towers in America on Spet. 11th and the bombing of London transport services on July 7th (AL-QUAEDA NETWORKS), I don’t have any business with you, my duty as I am mailing you now is just to KILL you and I have to do it as I have already been paid for that.

Someone whom you called your friend wants you dead by all means, and this person have spent a lot of money in this venture, This person came to us and told me that he wanted you dead and he provided us with your name, picture and other necessary information’s we needed about you. So I sent my boys to track you down this including bugging of your phones with satellite tracking devices and they have carried out the necessary investigation we needed for the operation on you, and if you doubt this information am going to give you all the necessary information about you back to you in your next reply so that you can believe me, and my boys are really on you but I told them not to kill you that I will like to contact you and see if your life is important to you and the one of your family. I called my client back and ask him of your email address which I didn’t tell him what I wanted to do with it and he gave it to me and I am using it to contact you now. As I am writing you this mail my men are monitoring you and they are telling me everything about you.

Now do you want to LIVE OR DIE? Since all program has be made and drawn to kill you. Get back to me now if you are ready to pay some fees to spare your Life, $16,000 is all you need to spend in this process you will first of all Pay $4,000 for my boys to stop the killing ,then you pay $5,000 and then I will send a tape to you which I recorded every discussion I had with the person who wanted you dead and as soon as you get the Tape, You will pay the remaining balance of $7,000. If you are not ready for my help, then I will carry on with my job straight-up.

WARNING: DO NOT THINK OF CONTACTING THE POLICE OR EVEN TELLING ANYONE BECAUSE I WILL KNOW ,REMEMBER, SOMEONE WHO KNOWS YOU VERY WELL WANT YOU DEAD! I WILL EXTEND IT TO YOUR FAMILY, INCASE I NOTICE SOMETHING FUNNY ABOUT YOUR TELLING THE SECURITY ABOUT IT BECAUSE A GOOD LOOK IS OUT YOU AT THE MOMENT. DO NOT COME OUT ONCE IT IS 7PM UNTIL I MAKE OUT TIME TO SEE YOU AND GIVE YOU THE TAPE OF ALL DISCUSSION WITH THE PERSON WHO WANT YOU DEAD THEN YOU CAN USE IT TO TAKE ANY LEGAL ACTION. GOOD LUCK AS I AWAIT YOUR REPLY

What’s sad is that some people fall for/cave in to this type of thing. On the other hand, you could pretend to fall for it and try to reel this guy in. There was an episode of This American Life about people going after scammers like this.

  2. This is one of the better scam e-mails that I’ve read. It is mostly readable and contains fewer spelling & grammar mistakes than other ones.

I love how it says “GOOD LUCK” in the end – heh. Did you get this in your spambox or did it go straight to your inbox?

  3. And it’s so convincing because he’ll send you proof that he is tracking you in your next reply. Spam like this is pretty fun.

@Jessi: Yeah, I was thinking the same thing — I wonder how many people actually buy into this kind of nonsense.. Seems way too obvious to me, but we both know that there are all kinds of nutbags out there in the world.

@John: This actually made it through to the inbox, otherwise I wouldn’t have had the pleasure of reading it. The entire letter sounds almost apologetic, as if this guy feels bad that he is stooping so low as to threaten your life for a few thousand bucks.

@Ryan: I know, I almost decided to play along with an anonymous account just to see how the fantasy would play out. Seeing the “proof” would be interesting, especially if it were true! ;)

  5. I’ve read a post in Courrier International about a man who had bought a Nigerian scam and had ruined his life and the life of his friends and family. He said that he “trully thought it was real”. The post also said that even if this kind of scam only works on a very little part of the receivers, it was still a juicy business for the senders.

You should have responded, sounded like lot’s of fun :D

@Louis: That’s insane. But I figured as much.. “it takes all types of people to make a world,” as my mother used to say. On my mindfeed site, I also document the process whereby I almost fell for a check-cashing scam by not paying attention. Those guys are slick, for sure, but the “death-threat” approach is just way over the top. People never cease to amaze me.

I saw this on my email via rss reader after the 4g post and thought you added a new bit to your signature :p

though funny how this post and this comics latest arc coincide http://www.leasticoulddo.com/ !

  8. @Donace: Ha! That’s hilarious, man.. maybe I should beef up my signature with something a little more.. “deadly”!! Good stuff..

The comic is pretty interesting as well – never seen it before! Thx!

Interesting how some people who aren’t wised-up to the scams around could fall for that. I mean come on…….

I really thought that I have seen all of these types of scams, until this one came across. The email i received is almost exactly like this one, but the payment terms are a little different. In a way it makes no sense to me what so ever due to the fact that this person states that they have been paid to “off” me but yet will take $4000 now and $4000 in a month. I had a little fun with them bellow is the chain. LMAO!!

    Attention:

We received your e-mail and we want to tell you to act as ASAP.you are
to pay $4000 through western union money transfer in the next 24hrs
before paying the other $4000 so that our men will stop the drastic
action on you. Also the tape will be sent to you as soon as the $8000
payment is been completed so you can see with your eyes who wants you
dead before paying the remaining balance of $7000.Remember we act with
time.Below is the details for the payment

    Receiver Name:Margaret Anderson
    Address:267 BishopsGate,London,EC7 G6D,United Kingdom
    Amount:$4000.

Upon making of the payment, you are required to forward confirm slip to
    us for pick up.

    On 6/16/09,
I have been put in a very dire place. I must not die for i have family. I
dont have 15000 cash but i do have about 4000 cash in my bank account that can be transferred right away. What kind of assurance do i have that once i have made payments i will not die. I think that 4000 dollars would be enough to stop any actions until the rest of the 4000 dollars can be paid within the month. Are these terms agreeable. If so how do i get you this money. Please reply to me soon. I dont want to die and leave my kids motherless.

@Marty: LOL!!! That is HILARIOUS. I should have done something similar and posted the information as well. Very funny – thanks for making my day :)
