PayPal Sucks

Update: The following rant was written almost 20 years ago. Since then, PayPal has improved in some areas, not so much in others. Currently I am using PayPal to accept online payments and donations. This post remains online for historical purposes only, take it with a grain of salt.

PayPal is too automated. The phone service is automated, slow, and worthless. Plus, the number for help is not toll-free — I had to pay for PayPal’s auto-garbage phone system. Plus, the email support is automated, slow, unresponsive, and also worthless. I received a worthless auto-reply to several very specific questions regarding my account security. Security is too important to be so disregarded by PayPal, especially with one’s financial integrity at stake. PayPal is losing the technology race with its poor record-keeping and customer-service performance. I will go elsewhere for the service once provided by PayPal. PayPal is no longer relevant, responsive, or worthwhile.

  1. i paid a small developer for software, noticing the form alongside theirs to use paypal … i completed their payment, card # and all — and paypal pops up and says No! that email address is registered with paypal and you must pay through us! … since when? must i get a special addy just to avoid this? i loathe paypal, use only when i must.

I hear you.. Fortunately, since canceling service, I have managed to steer clear of them altogether. Unfortunately, they seem to have mesmerized enough folks to make things difficult..

Hopefully, things will change and better options will emerge.
